about

True Story: AA-BLACKMOON was winding down. It was a cold autumn day, nearing sunset. The promise of approaching winter hung heavy in the air. We were deep in coyote country--bear country, even--in a dark forest, on an isolated dirt track road, miles from civilization or even any power lines. We were fighting with our technology, trying to make some sense of a poorly marked trail detour when I heard one of those birds that sounds like a cat. Only this one sounded a LOT like a cat. TOO MUCH like a cat. In fact it was not a bird, but a cat. A kitten, in fact, hiding in poison ivy at the side of the road. A small, grey kitten in desperate need he could barely comprehend. Urgent tact and gentle persuasion were crucial.

Two hours and a punishing 7 mile hike later, we were on our way back to Rochester with a shivering little guy safely stowed in the back seat, protesting loudly.

We didn't know it at the time, but an unplanned phase of AA-BLACKMOON had just begun: UX-DANGER KITTEN.

This song--the final act in the AA-BLACKMOON saga--tells that story.

lyrics

LYRICS:

Oh, Little Bird by the side of the road
Where did you come from, and where will you go?
Where will you go, and what will you do?
This forest is certainly no place for you.
Oh, Little Bird, this is someplace nobody should be--
Oh, Little Bird, I'm so glad you found me.

Oh, Little Bird that we found by the way
In the faltering sunlight of shortening days
The sky is so sullen and leaden with snow
Oh, Little Bird, there's so much you don't know.
Oh, Little Bird, this is someplace nobody should stay.
Oh, Little Bird, come with me, I pray.

Oh, Little Bird that we found by the road--
You are so warm, and the winter so cold.
So warm and alive, and the winter so dark--
So soft and bright, when the world is so harsh.
Oh, Little Bird, I would cry if you wanted to leave.
Oh, Little Bird, I'm so glad you found me.
